+ Nicaragua +

I just got home from a surf trip to Nicaragua a little early.. unexpectedly.  I went down there in search of empty beach break barrels and came home with my right heel broken in two pieces.  I was there for two days when on my third surf session in incredible waves, I took a bad digger which landed me into the dirtiest, scariest hospital I have ever seen.  After 3 hours of waiting and sweating in the Nicaraguan hospital, the verdict was I needed to be rushed home to San Diego on the next available flight and straight into surgery.  After a painful 3 hour drive on dirt roads, 3 flights and a couple thousand dollars, I managed to get straight into surgery upon arrival in San Diego.  Now my heel has been bolted back together with two nice shiny pins.  Even though I was only there for 72 hours I managed to shoot quite a few photos.  Took a couple rolls of film as well.  Once I heal up a little more I will drop the film off at the lab and edit the digital files.  For now…it’s going to be a long road to recovery.. doctor says I’ll be out of the water for 3-4 months and off my foot for at least a month.  Here’s how the trip started…

Annnnd here’s how it ended…

Check back soon for the rest of the photos

Went out the other night and did some long exposures on film.  I used my little Yashica Electro 35 rangefinder with Kodak Ektar 100.  I will forever love Ektar for night time long exposure stuff…unbelievable film

Things have been pretty quite in the blog lately…sorry bout that.  Been super busy lately, and I have a ton of new content that is currently being added to my site.  For now here’s a few photos from a little sunset longboard action at San Onofre.  I went up there a couple days ago with my Dad and had a few waves.  Sometimes it’s nice to slow it down and cruise around on the longboards.  I shot a roll of film after I got out of the water…the weather was beautiful.  These were all shot on a M3 with Ektar 100

+ Night Surfing +

Last week Nike 6.0 put on a little night time surf session at Seaside.  It was pretty cool to watch…they had a bunch of lights out in the lineup and on the beach.  It was rad to see the local Seaside crew mix it up with the 6.0 riders.  The surf was pretty weak, but it didn’t stop the groms from shredding.  There was like 500 other photographers running around so I didn’t really shoot much…just kinda hung around and watched.  I took my M3 and some 3200 Tmax for a couple shots…

I seem to have a hard time getting away from shooting film these days.  This summer I kinda put the digital to rest for a bit and started shooting more film.  I really miss the whole developing film process that first drew me to photography.  I’d much rather spend a couple hours in a darkroom or on a light table checking negatives than sorting through a thousand RAW files on a computer screen…it hurts my head.  The last couple projects I’ve been working on have all been on film…I shot 10 rolls of film in the past 2 weeks for some personal projects and just some spur of the moment lifestyle stuff.  Below are a few random selects…the rest should turn up on my website fairly soon.

Film: Tmax 100 & Portra 160  Tools: Leica / 35

These past couple weeks have been insanely beautiful…we’ve had warm weather, warm water, and really fun surf.  I’ve been spending some quality time on the sand and in the water.  There’s really no place I’d rather live than San Diego…I’m pretty fortunate to call this my home…sometimes it’s nice to just take a step back, relax, and enjoy your surroundings.  Here’s a couple shots from the past few evenings in Encinitas and Oside.

I started a new little blog recently…it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now and I finally got around to it.  I’ll be posting photos every day…just random stuff that didn’t make it up on the website or blog or whatever… they need a place to be seen too, right?  Well here it is… http://outoftherain.tumblr.com/
